The Pipe Bands Australia Hall of Fame will have a permanent display to be unveiled during the national association’s Diamond Jubilee year.
The Hall of Fame, instituted in 2018 with an inaugural 12 inductees, will be unveiled at the Maryborough Highland Society on the eve of the 2020 Australian Pipe Band Championships.
The Hall of Fame wall at the entertainment venue will feature the names of all current and future inductees against a backdrop photograph of the massed bands of the first Australian championships hosted by the society in 1961 when 21 bands from four states attended.
Following discussions between the society and Pipe Bands Australia, the offer of a permanent home was accepted in recognition of the important role over the past century of the society in the promotion and advancement of pipe bands in Australia.
It was at the Maryborough Highland Gathering in 1924 that the first formal talks were held to establish the Victorian Highland Pipe Band Association, the first in the world, that became one of the leader in the formation of the then Australian Federation of Pipe Band Associations that later transitioned to Pipe Bands Australia.
Two additional people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020, selected from those who have been recognised with one of the national awards for performance, education and training or promotion and advancement of pipe bands in Australia.
